The speaker was very knowledgeable and took us through a nice demo, even refreshing data live during the presentation. Honest comments about what can and cannot be done with various combinations of tools was very helpful.

Excellent event - Tom was great, thanks for joining us. There was quite a bit of animated conversation; excel is always such a "hot" topic. To sum up the event's premise: whether we, as the BI community, love or hate excel we have to consent that there are businesses out there that depend on excel for reporting, analytics. Even as they acknowledge the many pitfalls that arise when excel is misused, unwinding the dependency is not as simple as many vendors will have us believe. In practice, excel is here to stay. Tom's ExcelCube offers a reporting framework on top of Excel, providing governance over similar spreadsheets, roll-up, pivot, and cascading update capabilities across an organization. But let's make sure the purpose of the product is clear. ExcelCube helps organizations get a grip on a disorganized excel landscape. The familiar excel semantics will be welcomed by an excel user. It feels lite-weight and non-intrusive, yet powerful. Will upload slides soon.

This was my first NYBI event. The speaker seemed fairly general and the presentation was not very technical although it seemed to generate some decent discussion from participants. More time could have been focused on use case scenarios and solutions as well hiring techniques to build teams.

The gulf between the IT and the business is always a fascinating topic (and the never ending story..) especially in the BI area where there's a strong interface between these groups. Meta is a great speaker

Great, in-depth coverage of Vertica's internals and how they differ from a traditional row-based storage engine. Thanks Full360. PPT will be posted shortly.

Interesting presentation. Liked to know from Elixir Technology what was their position in the market in terms of providing services and the data virtualization part (aka the Cloud). They also where very honest while describing their product, specially Lau Shih Hor (CEO), and that is the kind of persons anyone wants to be working with. Also their BI tool seems very complete. Its not only BI, it has ETL and a Scheduler. And integrates with other stuff, like Data Mining models resultant from an external Data Mining tool.

Great session on VoltDB (shame I missed the first 30 minutes). If the product works as well as described its another big step forward in the analysis of near real-time data. I would love to put it through its paces, but don't have that problem to solve.

Interesting idea for a new business. Presenters did an excellent job sharing the concept and handling questions.

I thought this was a good session. The presenters were prepared (i.e. had their stuff well thought out), and were open to input and critique. Lots of quality interchange.

First meeting I attended, not sure what to expect. Well conducted. I was looking for more insights into infrastructure, tools, usability of BI platforms, didn't get much of that in the meeting, it was more about the business model.

Excellent introduction to AppNexus's product and overview of the RTB space. I was especially impressed by their optimization cycle - 15 minutes is as close to real time as it can get in the display world.

Excellent presentation and transition from our vendor-driven presentations to real-world challenges. I hope to have AppNexus back in 6-12 months to give us an update on their current and new challenges.

Interesting product. If it performs as claimed it really could be the game changer that Bill and the Ingres team clearly believe it is. However the product is so new that it can't compete in the large scale data problems that are so prevalent nowadays. Presentation was refreshingly honest, but focused too much on hardware configuration rather than real life examples of where the product is best used. One to watch with interest.

Big thanks to Bill Maimone, Norm and the INGRES team for helping us explore the VectorWise solution proposition. It will certainly be interesting to follow INGRES' road map into 2011: whether they will follow their competitors with an MPP offering or if they will revitalize the super-server (mainframe) model of computing. Clearly, there was quite a bit of thorough and high-quality feedback from the audience. Although the commentary was a bit too exclusive to the needs of financial services institutions, I certainly hope that there was educational value in the insights for both vendor and our members. And if portions of this round-table were not eye openers, perhaps they were bottle openers instead!

Very interesting overview of the Aster Data MapReduce implementation. Great to see it presented without the pre-sales slant. It will be very interesting to see how the market share of MapReduce based databases will grow over the next few years.

The presenters had answers for all the challenging technical questions by the audience. In the beginning, the presentation could had benefit of better contextualization in terms of category of BI tool (because some people did not immediately realized that the tool was at DBMS level), but ended the best way with good applauses.

Very good session, though I would have liked to know more "under the hood" detail. But clearly everyone was interested because discussion pretty much supplanted formal presentation.
